Darrell Ishmael

Darrell Ishmael

From Darrell Ishmael himself:

My roots are in small town Kentucky surrounded by horse country and a family of artisans-primarily painters, quilt makers, and textile artists. Frequent coastal visits in the United States and Ireland as well as equine related experiences also are reflected in my work.

Artistic creations utilize natural materials such as Appalachian coal, Kentucky River sand and limestone bits. Rich colors and lustrous depth is achieved by multi-layered acrylic glazes and metallic paint pigments filtered through the fissures of the textured surfaces.

I graduated from the University of Kentucky and studied at The University of Hawaii. Largely self taught as an artist, I participate in frequent workshops and studio sessions with fellow artists and explore the creative process in a variety of mediums including metal and clay sculpture. In the fall of 2010, I was the featured artist at the the Alltech Pavillion of the World Equestrian Games and in 2011 had a solo exhibit in the Office of the Governor and Capital Rotunda in Frankfort, Kentucky. I have exhibited in numerous juried solo and group shows and have work in private and corporate collections nationwide.
